This weekend people everywhere are greening their houses, their workplaces, and their cities in preparation for the holiday season. Why not let a boat be part of the fun?!

Here in Gig Harbor we have a great maritime culture, and every year there is a holiday boat parade where people festoon their boats with lights, and circle the harbor after sunset. It’s fun to view both from the water and from land, taking in the holiday lights from both sides.

Whether your town has an event like ours, or not, there’s no reason not to head to the water this holiday season and let the dinghies get some love, too!

Bundle up, bring some hot cocoa and battery-powered outdoor lights and Deck the Hulls for yourself! It’s great fun to get out on the water this time of year and see things in a different light.

Here’s a video showing how we do it at Gig Harbor Boat Works! We chose the 12′ Point Defiance as our boat to “deck” — it’s a great multipurpose dinghy for family outings, and plenty stable for outside-the-box activities like this one!

P.S. pro-tip: it can be tricky fitting a conventional PFD over a bulky parka. There are nifty inflatable PFD belts that keep a nice low profile around the waist and only inflate if needed (hopefully never!)

We’d love to see your Deck the Hulls photos! As this is the season of giving, we’ll send you a surprise gift if you send us a great photo that we can use on our blog.

Share them with us on social media using hashtag #GHBWdeckthehulls, or email them to the boatshop
