A history lesson

Dave is visiting relatives in Europe so naturally he searched out the nearest marine museum. He stumbled on a dandy – the Viking Maritime Museum in Denmark. Here in the land of the Vikings a few of their vessels sank and were buried in mud for a thousand years. These boats – really ships – were discovered in the 1960’s and carefully exhumed, measured and recreated. The museum now exhibits the originals and new, fully...

Blessing of the Fleet – Gig Harbor

Posted by on Jun 29, 2015 in Just for Fun |

It was the first time I had been to the annual Blessing of the Fleet in Gig Harbor. It was a June day in Gig Harbor. One which you didn’t know whether you wanted to be on land or water. Boats of all sizes were packed around the public dock floating as one. There were cruisers, rowers, paddlers and a fishing fleet rafted side by side. How to earn a Gig Harbor Boat Works T-shirt!

These are a few photos of...

Fishing with the grandkids

Last week grandpa took the kids out for their very first ‘Real’ fishing trip. Our boat of choice was a Gig Harbor Lobster Boat (naturally!) because of it’s ample space and stability. We went to Olalla bay  which requires a fun row under a low bridge to access the tide flats where bullheads and Flounder frolic. Lena caught her first ‘real’ fish and Karst got his first fish ever! All by himself too! They proudly took their catch home for mom to...

One oar in the Water

Posted by on Sep 23, 2011 in Just for Fun |

One of our rowing  friends  has been rowing laps of Seattle’s circular Green Lake for training. He has tendancy to always row around and around  the lake in the same direction ala NASCAR racing, though we warned him about that…. Here’s a recent photo of...
