Oar Northwest’s Mississippi adventure

Our friends at Oar Northwest are at it again in their Gig Harbor Jersey Skiff rowboats, making their second annual trip down the entire length of the Mississippi River. The purpose of the trip is for scientific water study and to bring adventure to the classroom. OAR Northwest was founded by Jordan Hanssen and Greg Spooner, with the goal of boosting adventure education in K-12 classrooms. This year they are traveling 2,320 miles from Minnesota to Louisiana.

Throughout our years of building and selling boats, we have heard many customers tell us their big dreams and adventures they plan to go on. Sometimes the dreams are so big that they seem a tad unrealistic… so it’s always a delight when we hear back from them only to find they did what seemed like the impossible.

Ken Poskitt did just that when he traveled 1400 km [870 miles], from Victoria BC to Alaska.

Fall Wrap up and reflection

As we say good bye to the fall leaves and hello to the rain, we make the seasonal change to our schedules and activities moving more and more indoors. Now is a good time of year for preparing for the next season’s activities while shifting into winter; it’s a great time to bring in your boat in for some well needed repairs. Fiberglass is easily repairable and we are able to do small or large jobs in our repair shop. Time and weather...

Mailbag : Thanks for an awesome boat!

We received an email from an appreciative customer in Alaska who thanked us for his boat that he uses quite frequently exploring the glacier lakes near Juneau Alaska. I in turn thanked him for sending us the awesome pictures with the blue ice in a shade I can’t describe. The visuals of the ice are also helping us cool down on these hot days of summer.  Then I asked him what he’s doing up there with his 10′ navigator….....
